Regardless of its' location, if the chip is a lot bigger than 3 inches than most glass company firms will tell you that you need to replace it. If the chip is smaller than that, it can usually be fixed. The important thing is that you do not get talked into replacing your windshield when it is not necessary. If you suspect that a simple front window repair job would suffice, get at least 3-5 opinions before making the final call.
If you don't want to get on all-fours and do your floors, an office cleaning service will do it for you. Not only will they sweep and mop, they will wax, buff, deep-clean and do your carpets. These are maintenance tasks that most of us aren't up do, and few of us have the gear to do ourselves. Some services offer floor stripping and sealing as well.
Check for irregularities. If you're at the front window repair or rear of the car, look along the car to see if there are small dents. These can be seen as distortions in the reflection. If the paint is not smooth in one place, then this could be a place where there has been some damage. Dents as large as a coin can be restored by a panel beater. Dents that are not thoroughly repaired are often filled with polyester resin or fibreglass paste. Tap the surface, or go along it with a magnet. Know whether the panel is made of steel, not plastic, fibreglass or aluminum. If there are places where the magnet will not adhere, then in all likelihood, the panel has been repaired. Ask the owner why the part has been repainted?
Check with your insurance, because it's likely your insurance will pay for some forms of windshield chip repair. They may even waive the deductible, since repairing your windshield is so much cheaper than replacing a windshield. Should you need total windshield replacement, you may have to pay a deductible with your insurance.
The system that controls and runs your power windows is a really simple system. Its made up of a few on/off switches, your battery, and a 12 V motor in each door. There is also a mechanism called a regulator in each door. The regulator can either be of the rack, sector, or cable drive variety. That's about it.
